May 9, 2024
On Sunday, May 7, Carolyn Gary completed her last shift as an employee with East Alabama Health, closing out a career spanning more than four decades. Carolyn cared for patients in various departments, and most recently served as a house supervisor. The Wednesday before her final shift, Carolyn was celebrated by family members and coworkers during a retirement party.
A little bit about Carolyn:
I am a graduate of Tuskegee University with a bachelor's degree in nursing. I have lived in Opelika for almost 20 years. I have one daughter and one granddaughter. Some of my favorite things to do are reading, cooking, traveling and spending time with my family. I have a large family and extended family.
How long have you worked for East Alabama Health:
I have been employed at EAH for over 41 years.
What lead to your working here?
I came to EAH In 1982 to work on Progressive. I wanted to be a cardiac nurse. From Progressive and CTC I went to the ICU, and then on to the Cath Lab. I spent over 18 years as a Cath Lab nurse. After the Cath Lab, I worked as an evening shift house supervisor for over 15 years.
What is one of your favorite memories working here?
I have had a lot of great moments and memories here. It was always a blessing to see the patients get better and go home. I have enjoyed working here over the years, and I have learned a lot and feel that I am a better nurse because of it.
Is there anyone you have worked with who has made a lasting impact on your career/life?
I met a lot of great people over the years. I remember Z. Carter who was my manager on 4T and of course Dr Robert Ingram who loved to keep every on their toes.
