Nurse Apprentice Cohort Sign Agreements
August 17, 2023Nursing students from Auburn University and Southern Union State Community College signed apprenticeship agreements with East Alabama Health (EAH) during a joint ceremony in August 2023.
This marks the second year of the program and the third cohort. Apprentices chosen for the program begin working as EAH employees during their second semester of nursing school. A total of 13 apprentices signed agreements, with seven being Auburn students and six being Southern Union students.
While in the program, apprentices rotate through the Emergency Department, ICU, Med/Surg, Maternal/Infant and Psychiatric units of the hospital and work side-by-side with a nurse mentor. The program allows the apprentices to gain hands-on experience while in school, offering the opportunity to earn clinical hours, get paid and be assured of continued employment following graduation.
