Career Reflections: Robert Ogletree
March 25, 2024
A little bit about Robert:
My primary hobby is reading, a trait I inherited from my late mother. From a young age, I discovered that I could explore the entire world simply by opening a book, all from the comfort of my home. I graduated from Loachapoka High School, where I was born and raised. With the support of a scholarship from East Alabama Health, I earned a degree in CIS (Computer Information Systems). I have two adorable granddaughters.
How long have you worked for East Alabama Health?
Believe it or not, I've been working at EAH for nearly four decades. My journey began in the early 1980s, shortly after graduating from high school, when I started my career in Nutrition and Food Services as a grill cook. After spending several years in N&FS, I developed an interest in computers. I took a position on the third shift as a computer operator in the Information Technology department. Over time, I progressed through various roles within IT, moving from computer operator to desktop support team, then to the network specialist team, and finally landing in my current role as a network engineer. The organization has supported me throughout this journey, for which I am truly grateful.
What lead to you working here?
A relative accepted a position in Nutrition and Food Services and happily shared her satisfaction with the job. Later, she mentioned an open position for a grill cook in the department and asked if I was interested. The rest, as they say, is history.
What have you enjoyed most about working here?
Foremost, I take pride in being a member of a team dedicated to delivering high-quality compassionate health care. The benefits are great. EAH has always been family-oriented. Most employees are familiar with each other on a first-name basis. Job security is undoubtedly a top priority for anyone, and I've never had to worry about it during my time here.
What is one of your favorite memories working here?
After nearly 40 years, I have many favorite memories. If I had to choose one, I would say working with, supporting, and interacting with the entire EAH staff.
Is there anyone you’ve worked with who’s made a lasting impact on your career/life?
There are so many people—current and former employees—who have impacted my career, that I can’t possibly list them all. But I will mention Jewel Buchanan and Belinda Humphrey (both now retired). Why? Jewel, the director of Nutrition and Food Services at that time, hired me for the grill cook position, and Belinda, the IT Manager at that time, hired me when I moved to Information Technology. And I remain thankful to this very moment.
