About this event

Pregnancy is a journey filled with new experiences, questions, and important decisions. Whether you are currently pregnant or planning to be, the Understanding Pregnancy class provides guidance on what to expect throughout pregnancy.

Who should attend?

This class is designed and recommended for expectant mothers and a support person to learn more about navigating different aspects of pregnancy.

Class sessions are led by instructors from the Auburn University College of Nursing and are free for all attendees.

Only the expectant mother needs to register. You may bring one support person to the class, but do not need to register that person.

Topics that the class covers

This class seeks to help you better understand the changes, milestones, and common health considerations you may encounter during pregnancy.

  • Prenatal visits: Learn what to expect at routine prenatal appointments, including visit frequency, recommended lab work, screening tests, and diagnostic options throughout pregnancy.
  • Pregnancy changes: Explore the physical and emotional changes that can happen during each trimester and how to recognize what is typical at each stage.
  • Nutrition and weight gain: Understand healthy eating habits during pregnancy, key nutrients to prioritize, and general guidance for appropriate weight gain.
  • Gestational diabetes: Review how gestational diabetes is screened and managed, along with practical steps for supporting blood sugar control during pregnancy.
  • Gestational hypertension: Learn about high blood pressure during pregnancy, warning signs to watch for, and why monitoring and timely care are important for mother and baby.

No matter where you are in your pregnancy journey, we're here to help you feel supported, informed, and ready for what's next.
