About the EAMC Emergency Department
The East Alabama Medical Center (EAMC) Emergency Department is a 34-bed, Level III Trauma Center that provides high-quality, compassionate health care for families when they need it most. Treating approximately 42,000 patients annually, the EAMC Emergency Department features dedicated trauma, medical, mental health, and cardiac rooms.
Staffed 24 hours a day by highly skilled physicians, nurse practitioners, and nurses, our team is committed to ensuring patients receive timely care in a professional, supportive environment.
How we treat patients
Emergencies require rapid evaluation and decisive treatment. That’s why we use the Emergency Severity Index (ESI) Level 5 Triage System to assess patient needs upon arrival. This system allows us to quickly identify and prioritize patients experiencing life-threatening conditions, ensuring they receive the most urgent care first.
Our exam rooms are strategically located near our radiology and cardiology departments to facilitate fast access to critical testing and treatment services.
Certified Primary Stroke Center
When it comes to stroke care, every second counts. The EAMC Emergency Department is certified as a Level II Primary Stroke Center, meeting rigorous national standards for rapid diagnosis and treatment. Our stroke care team is trained to deliver life-saving interventions quickly, helping improve outcomes and reduce long-term impacts.
Recognized for Excellence
In 2025, the EAMC Emergency Department was honored with the Lantern Award from the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA), recognizing our exceptional and innovative performance in leadership, clinical practice, education, advocacy, and research. We are proud to be one of only 96 emergency departments nationwide to receive this prestigious award in 2025.
