Alan Moore, M.D., medical director of the Emergency Departments of East Alabama Health, was recently honored by Auburn Mayor Ron Anders with a Lamplighter Award, recognizing his calm leadership, compassion, and service to the Auburn community.

Mayor Anders presented the award during his annual State of the City address, offering remarks that reflected both humor and heartfelt appreciation for Dr. Moore’s impact.

“Where in Auburn do you need a calm presence, a creative problem solver, an empathetic listener, an unflappable decision maker? In the emergency room, of course,” said Anders. “A place of tension, anxiety and pressure. Lives are sometimes in the balance. Illness is always prevalent — depicted by people from all walks of life with all kinds of personal make up.”

Mayor Anders went on to describe Dr. Moore’s role leading East Alabama Health’s Emergency Department teams.

“Our next lamplighter leads the group of nurses and doctors who find our citizens in their most difficult and painful state. He is a man and a doctor who has a unique gift to discern the situation and listen well to the patient. He is calm, so calm that one of his colleagues claims he never sweats,” Anders said.

“He guides these professionals that work under the highest of pressure. Pressure reveals character, and he gets a boatload of character from his staff. And like his own boat, which he likes to keep dry, he figures out how to manage through the chaos and lead his team.”

Lamplighter Awards are given by Mayor Anders to individuals who quietly and consistently make a positive impact on the lives of others. For those who work with Dr. Moore, the recognition came as no surprise. His steady leadership in East Alabama Health’s Emergency Departments, his calm demeanor and his dedication to both patients and staff embody the compassionate values East Alabama Health strives to uphold every day.

Through his leadership and example, Dr. Moore serves as a guiding light — both within the walls of East Alabama Health and throughout the Auburn community.
