Breast Health Center Acquires New Breast Ultrasound System
February 14, 2022
The East Alabama Health Breast Health Center recently acquired the ACUSON S2000™ ABVS, an ultrasound system that enables physicians to provide comprehensive breast imaging to their patients with the power of 2D hand-held imaging and 3D automated whole-breast ultrasound.
Breast ultrasound is often used to determine if a mass found during a mammogram is made of solid tissue or filled with fluid, which ultimately helps determine the next steps in care. The main intent of the ABVS system is ultimately to aid in the early detection and diagnosis of breast cancer.
This new addition to the Breast Health Center is especially helpful for use in patients who have dense breasts. With traditional breast imaging, dense breast tissue can often make it difficult to see masses or other abnormalities in the breast. With the new ABVS breast ultrasound system, physicians can inspect dense breast tissue and all other areas of the breast with greater clarity and a more in-depth precise view of the tissue, making it easier to determine a more informed diagnosis and course of treatment.
Not every patient requires a breast ultrasound – a determination regarding the need for ultrasound is made by a radiologist based on abnormal findings from a mammogram. To learn more about services offered at the Breast Health Center, visit www.eastalabamahealth.org/breasthealth.
