COVID-19 Frontline Feature - M. Ann Shannon, M.D.
April 14, 2020
M. Ann Shannon, M.D., a hospitalist at EAMC of 14 years, is on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic. She, along with the whole team at EAMC, has been working relentlessly to fight COVID-19.
When describing what her job has been like during the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Shannon explains that she has been predominantly working in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and covering patients admitted with COVID-19.
Dr. Shannon notes that since COVID-19 is a new infectious disease that has never been seen before, it presented new challenges. “Dealing with the beginning of the pandemic was extremely challenging due to the fact that we didn’t know exactly what we were facing,” Dr. Shannon explains. “Adapting to a new normal, and the sheer number of patients that we are caring for have also been a challenging.”
Dr. Shannon notes that she’s encouraged by the success EAMC has experienced so far in the COVID-19 pandemic. “EAMC’s response to COVID-19 has been wonderful, and the entire effort of all the staff makes me incredibly proud to be a part of this team,” Dr. Shannon says. “We are truly all in this together.”
Since EAMC began sharing stories from the frontlines of COVID-19, there have been so many stories of employees, volunteers, donors and even prayer warriors going above and beyond expectations and rising to the challenge that this pandemic has created. Dr. Shannon also shares this sentiment when reflecting on the past three weeks. “The entire ICU staff has gone above and beyond what has been asked of them,” she says. “The nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists, pharmacists, managers, and so many more have surpassed all expectations. They are the true heroes in all of this.”
