EAMC and EAMC-Lanier Earn Platinum Recognition for Organ Donation
February 10, 2023East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika and EAMC-Lanier in Valley each earned Platinum Recognition status from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) for educating and promoting organ donation awareness. The recognition awards were announced at the 2022 Stars of Hope Gala in Montgomery. The two East Alabama Health were joined by 34 other Alabama hospitals in achieving Platinum Recognition status. The other 81 hospitals that participated received either a Bronze, Silver or Gold recognition award.
The Platinum Recognition awards were earned by receiving points for conducting or participating in events. Here are a few of the activities for which EAMC and EAMC-Lanier earned points, all with the mission of promoting organ donation and/or educating the community about it.
- Flag-raising ceremony during National Donate Life Month, and the raising of the same flag whenever organs are procured from a patient who agreed to be an organ donor upon death
- Displaying campaign posters in hospital lobby to promote organ donation during National Donate Life Month
- Staff participating in National Blue/Green Day
- Social Media posts providing links to register to be a donor
- Conducting a competition between units on how each unit/department represent, educate, promote, and champion the Donate Life Campaign by using “Bee a Donor” theme
“This Platinum Recognition Award exemplifies the passion for organ donation within our organization,” says Megan Harper, BSN, RN (CVICU and ICU nursing supervisor and organ donation committee chair). “The hard work and dedication from our employees in educating and promoting organ donation to our patients and their families is very meaningful and I appreciate the efforts of everyone involved.”
