Heidi VanderVelde, D.O.

Heidi VanderVelde, D.O. has joined the team at Pediatric Associates of Auburn. Dr. VanderVelde received her medical degree from the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) and completed her residency at the University of Florida at Jacksonville. During her residency, she received multiple awards, including the Northeast Florida Pediatric Society Resident of the Year (2018), Chief Resident (2017-2018) and the Golden Apple Teaching Award (2016). She also presented on the importance of patient stories at Pediatric Academic Societies annual meeting in 2018.

Dr. VanderVelde’s father, a family practice physician, initially introduced her to medicine. Before ultimately deciding on a career in medicine, she pursued another of her passions, literature, and became a writer, editor and after-school English tutor for several years.

As a medical student, Dr. VanderVelde rotated through EAMC and Pediatric Associates of Auburn. “I immediately knew this clinic was a great fit, and I am thrilled to come back to a community and clinic that I love,” Dr. VanderVelde said.

Dr. VanderVelde is married to Dr. Grant Nelson, a hospitalist with Internal Medicine Associates, P.C. They have two dogs, a beagle mix named Lady and a coonhound named Gent.
