OPELIKA, Ala.— East Alabama Health President and CEO Laura Grill has been appointed by Gov. Kay Ivey to serve on the Alabama School of Healthcare Sciences board of trustees. Grill will represent Alabama’s 3rd Congressional District during her term, which expires July 31, 2028.
“Alabama has a critical need for more health care professionals, and the Alabama School of Healthcare sciences seeks to identify, train and retain talented students interested in a medical career,” Grill said. “It is my privilege to serve with the other board members as a steward of an institution aiming to educate the next generation of healthcare workers.”
The Alabama School of Healthcare Sciences is a tuition-free, residential high school designed to address the critical need for health care professionals within the state. By introducing students to various opportunities within the health care industry and providing them with hands-on clinical training, the school seeks to prepare graduates to immediately step into high-demand medical careers or continue pursing higher education. The school will be located in Demopolis and is scheduled to open in fall 2026. Grill will serve along with 11 other board members to provide governance and operational oversight for the school, develop and implement curriculum and appoint the school’s director.
“As one of my appointees, you will be making important decisions that affect the citizens of Alabama,” said Gov. Ivey in a letter informing Grill of the appointment. “I have made honesty and integrity a priority in my Administration, and I know that you will embody these two virtues while serving the people of Alabama.”
