Samantha Lawson, D.O.

Residents living in Smiths Station and surrounding areas now have another option for health care – East Alabama Health’s new Primary Medicine Associates (PMA) clinic, at the intersection of Summerville Road and Highway 280 next to the Love’s Truck Stop.

The new PMA clinic will open for patients on Wednesday, August 3. Samantha Lawson, D.O., who is originally from Smiths Station, will be the physician at the new clinic. Dr. Lawson will be providing family medicine services to patients of all ages, and any patient who she determines needs more than primary care will be referred to a specialist.

“When I was growing up in Smiths Station, I noticed that patients who lived there had to travel to Columbus or Opelika-Auburn to receive routine health care,” says Dr. Lawson. “For many of them, the trip was a burden and would result in them foregoing regular checkups and dismissing health concerns until it was an emergency. At that time, I felt called to serve in an area that needed health care. I believe that being able to come back to my hometown and serve as a family physician in the community that inspired me to become a physician is truly a blessing from God, and is the path I was meant to follow.”

The PMA clinic in Smiths Station will be open Monday – Thursday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. (all times are in Eastern Time). While it is preferred that patients call ahead to make an appointment, walk-ins will be accepted in most cases for minor illnesses and injuries.
