East Alabama Health Recognized on Forbes America's Best-in-State Employers 2023 List

OPELIKA, Ala.— East Alabama Health (EAH) has made the Forbes list of America’s Best-in-State Employers 2023 for Alabama. The award list, compiled by Forbes and Statista, was announced in late August. EAH was one of only two Lee County-based employers to make the list, along with Auburn University, and one of only four hospitals in Alabama to be recognized.

“Our employees are what make our organization one of the best in the state,” said Laura Grill, president and CEO of East Alabama Health. “We’re proud of this recognition, and we will continue to find new ways to offer our employees the best working environment possible.”

The evaluation was made on a state-by-state basis and is based on three distinct criteria: in-state indirect recommendations, national in-industry indirect recommendations and direct recommendations. Furthermore, employees were asked to give their opinions on a series of statements surrounding work-related topics of e.g. working conditions, diversity, salary, potential for development and company image regarding their current employer.

"Healthcare is sacred work performed by people who want to make a difference,” said Susan Johnston, vice president of Human Resources for EAH. “Our employees make a difference every day, and we strive to support them by offering a great working environment and a benefits package that supports them and their families. This recognition validates that we are moving in the right direction."

More than 3,600 people are employed by EAH and have access to a rich benefit package. Some of the benefits offered include onsite childcare, flexible work options, competitive salaries, retirement with employer match and robust professional development opportunities through onsite educational opportunities. EAH is the only employer in the state to match 529 savings plans.

America's Best-in-State Employers 2023 were identified based on 2.1 million employer recommendations from employees working for companies with more than 500 employees in the United States. The recommended employers have been grouped into one of the 25 industry sectors. Employers with operations in more than one state were ranked in multiple states.
