Edward Joe Anderson - Patient Testimonial
November 5, 2021
Edward "Joe" Anderson had a bad fall in August, and after having a surgery to repair his hip, he was unable to even roll over in bed without assistance.
Joe was unable to transfer from the bed to a chair, get dressed, or perform any self-care by himself. He was normally able to take care of himself, walk around his home with a cane, and was still driving before his fall.
Joe and his wife knew that he would need rehab after his surgery before he could go home, and because of their familiarity with the EAMC-Lanier Acute Rehab Unit (ARU), he chose to pursue his rehab there. He was happy to know that during his rehab stay, his wife would be close by and be able to visit him.
By the end of his time at the EAMC-Lanier ARU, Joe was back to walking household distances, climbing stairs, and was able to get in and out of his truck. With adaptive equipment and instruction, he was also able to perform all of his self-care without physical assistance.
When asked about his experience working through his therapy at the ARU, Joe says “They are doing what’s best for you [at the EAMC-Lanier ARU]; sometimes you have to suck it up and work.” Joe says his rehab experience was “excellent” and that he would recommend it to other patients who want to work on their physical independence.
