Keshia Scott - The Gift Shoppe at EAMC
Always looking to lend a hand, Keshia Scott (Gift Shop) wanted a job where she could help people and provide service with a smile. We recently talked with her about her career, accomplishments and what Black History Month means to her.
What is your job title here at EAH?
Gift Shop Coordinator
How long have you been with EAH?
8 years.
What inspired you to pursue your current job/career?
I was looking for a job where I could help others. I knew a position in the gift shop would allow me to help customers find that something special for their loved one. Talking with customers and giving a smile and listening ear is gratifying.
What accomplishments are you most proud of?
My accomplishment I’m most proud of is raising two young men: one that served in the Air Force, and the other is a firefighter. I’m proud to be a mom and grandmother. And providing and caring for my family never stopped me from advancing my career. I graduated from Southern Union in 2002 with my degree in Early Child Development. I also attended JES Health Services and received my certificate in Medical Billing and Coding in 2019.
Who is a person in Black history (whether personally known to you or someone universally known) that has shaped your career and who you are today?
Black history, for me, was shaped by my mother, a Black woman who never settled for less. My mother taught me that knowledge is power, and she has always been resilient. She is a spiritual person who uplifts and encourages you in the word of God.
What does Black History Month mean to you, and why is it important we recognize this month?
It is important that we appreciate the accomplishments of African American people. I am especially excited about how this month impacts our children and grandchildren as they see all the wonderful contributions that African Americans have made in this country.
