Lucille Floyd
Lucille Floyd is an active and independent 68-year-old with a love for crafting and gardening. On February 14, Lucille and her husband were involved in a car accident when they were hit by another driver, causing Lucille to suffer multiple bone fractures needing surgery to repair. Knowing she needed rehab to return home safely, Lucille began treatment at the EAMC-Lanier Acute Rehab Unit (ARU) on February 19.
When she first began treatment, Lucille was so limited by pain that she could not roll over without help, leading her medical team to initially focus on pain management. Being extremely motivated to go home safely, Lucille worked with her team to make amazing progress with physical and occupational therapy. “They wouldn’t let me give up. They saw something in me I didn’t see myself,” says Lucille, reflecting on her experience in the ARU.
When she was finally able to be discharged on March 8, Lucille was able to transfer herself to a wheelchair with only someone there to steady her. She has continued to make progress and is now able to perform her basic self-care in the comfort of her home with a little help from her “sweetie pie of 43 years,” who has stayed by her side throughout the entirety of her treatment.
When asked about her experience at the EAMC-Lanier ARU, Lucille said “[it is] the best rehab facility I have ever attended. I would advise anybody they’d get the best care here.” Thanks to her amazing care team at the EAMC-Lanier ARU, Lucille can again enjoy the things she loved prior to her accident.
