Megan Kelley, Anna Pace & Caunia Avery
Last Friday (October 25), there was a patient on Progressive who he is autistic. He was nonverbal and had a gluten and dairy (casein) allergy. He came in with an ileus and his diet was clear liquids most of the day but was advanced to puree before supper. Megan Kelley, RD went up to address the nutrition issues with the family in the room.
The mother of the patient was very angry with Megan about the fact that we did not have the specific items that her son needed right away. She really did not allow Megan to proceed with her interview as she was so angry and was shouting at her. Megan went to N&FS to attempt to make sure the patient received a dinner tray that was pureed and in compliance with his allergies.
The cook (Anna Pace) and her co-worker, Caunia Avery, assisted Megan with pureeing the proper foods from scratch, instead of using the normal prepackaged puree products (that were non-compliant with his casein allergy). All three employees went above and beyond to make sure this patient was taken care of.
After Megan delivered the meal after 6 p.m. on Friday, the mom did say “thank you for letting me be an advocate for my son.”
The situation was much better by the time Megan was able to read labels and realize that we were going to have to individually prepare this patient’s food to comply with the allergies. I just felt like the N&FS employees deserved recognition for their efforts, and Megan really sang their praises in helping her make this situation better. It reflects the commitment of the employees to make a terrible situation better.

Dr. Edward Kim
This morning, we had a patient come back to our floor that was discharged a week or two ago (I was here the day he discharged and so was primary RN, so we recognized him). Him or his family do not speak any English, only Korean. He was attempting to use google translate to talk with staff, but it was not translating correctly, and we could not understand what the patient needed.
Dr. Edward Kim was rounding on our floor at this time and another nurse asked him what languages he spoke. Luckily for us and this previous patient he stated he spoke English and Korean! Dr. Kim instantly was eager to help us in communicating with him and his family.
This RN and Dr. Kim went to previous patient and they spoke for about 15 minutes and Dr. Kim was able to find out that the patient needed to get his medical records, so he could go back to Korea and he did not know the address to his follow up appointment. We were able to give him the address to his follow up appointment and to medical records, so he could get what he needed.
Thank you, Dr. Kim, for taking time to help us and providing great patient care!

Sixth Floor, Transportation & Endoscopy Staff
To EAMC Administration:
I am writing to tell you of my son’s stay at EAMC a couple weeks ago. My son came into the ER with GI bleeding. While in the ER, he was given the best car by Sam and Denise. They went above and beyond to take good care of him and they were very attentive to him and were so kind to me. They were remarkable.
He was sent to room 6116 where his nurses were Mary Margaret and others taking care of him included Gricelda, Natalie, Judy Mavis, and Mallory. I cannot thank everyone enough for their care and professionalism. Even the guys in transport and the doctor and nurse in Endoscopy were so caring. I just wanted to let you know that I cam so very thankful to all of them and to thank you for hiring such caring professionals.
God bless you all.

Fifth Floor Staff
My husband was in EAMC from Oct. 5, 2024 to Oct. 14, 2024. He was on the fifth floor.
The nurses and techs on that floor were so nice and very efficient. They took great care of my husband, and they made sure they checked on him and kept up with all his needs.
I know Kayla and Chelsea were nice about checking on us to make sure all was okay. Emmeline Bourland stood out with her care she gave. She was so efficient and so sweet. An outstanding nurse! She also had to teach me how to feed my husband in his peg tub and she made me feel at ease.
Some of the other nurses and techs that stood out were Tracy, Alison, Jimin, Breanna, Tammy, Diana, Michael, Tiffany, Ebony, Olivia, Tiera and Ambria.
Courtney, the social worker, was very nice at setting up Home Health Care. Lynn Eden, dietitian, was very nice and explained the food and water that he would be getting daily, so I would understand it. Emily, speech therapist, worked with Larry on swallowing exercises and she was very good.
I just wanted to let you know that you have a very good group on the fifth floor!
