About Me
Joel Sullivan, D.O. is a board-certified neurologist practicing at Neurology Center of East Alabama. Originally from Bedford, Texas, Dr. Sullivan earned his Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience from The University of Texas at Dallas before earning his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine–Auburn Campus. He completed both his neurology residency and epilepsy fellowship at The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB).
Dr. Sullivan developed an interest in neurology while earning his undergraduate degree in neuroscience, and that passion was further strengthened during medical school through a clinical rotation with Dr. Belsterling at Neurology Center of East Alabama. As an epilepsy specialist, he is dedicated to providing comprehensive care for patients with all forms of epilepsy while also treating a broad range of neurological conditions. His research has focused on seizure outcomes in patients who underwent deep brain stimulation (DBS) at UAB, reflecting his commitment to advancing epilepsy care.
After attending medical school in Auburn, Dr. Sullivan and his wife knew they wanted to return to the area to build their lives and careers. Outside of work, Dr. Sullivan enjoys following sports, especially Dallas professional teams and Liverpool Football Club. He also enjoys spending time outdoors hunting, fishing, and hiking. He and his wife, Chandler, have been married for 13 years and have four children.
