East Alabama Health offers an on-site Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) program designed to address the growing need for ultrasound and echocardiography technologists in our region.

In partnership with Lurleen B. Wallace Community College, this program allows employees to advance their careers while continuing to work and receive benefits.

About the Program

The on-site DMS program enables East Alabama Health employees to earn their DMS degree while maintaining employment and benefits.

  • Start Date: Fall semester
  • Program Length: Five semesters
  • Location: East Alabama Health Education Center in Auburn
  • Format: Live, synchronous virtual lectures
  • Compensation: Students remain employed and are paid while completing coursework, labs and clinicals

Upon graduation, participants transition into full-time sonography roles at East Alabama Health and fulfill a predetermined work commitment.

Certification & Career Paths

As students near graduation and look toward registering in specialities, the program offers graduates the opportunity to become registered through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) in Abdomen and OB/GYN as early as 60 days prior to graduation.

Additional credentials that support East Alabama Health workforce needs include:

  • RDCS – Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (Fetal, Pediatric, and/or Adult)
  • RVT – Registered Vascular Technologist
  • Additional RDMS specialties: Breast, Pediatric, and Musculoskeletal
