Mend

Mend was established by East Alabama Health as a community-wide effort to provide recovery services to individuals and families affected by the March 3, 2019 tornados in the Beauregard and Smiths Station communities of Lee County, Alabama.
About Mend
In the aftermath of the tornados that ripped through the Beauregard and Smiths Station communities, countless people from Lee County and beyond responded with amazing compassion, humbling empathy, and unmatched love and support for their neighbors.
Donation centers were set up, money and volunteers came pouring in, and phones were ringing off the hook with people asking how they could help. That immediate response was nothing short of amazing! With the spotlight on Lee County, we showed the nation our heart…our resilience, grit, and commitment to take care of our own.
Mend is a program that brings together the many local service organizations, churches, civic groups and businesses, along with national and state organizations, to work on long-term recovery efforts. Our mission is to “To ensure that all affected by tragedy and disaster are able to fully recover physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually."
How to Give
With the support of our senior leadership, we’ve not only been able to provide the resources to coordinate long term disaster recovery efforts, but also to provide an avenue for giving. Through the Foundation, donations made can be guaranteed 100% for disaster relief in Lee County. That means no administrative fees, for every $1 donated, $1 will be used in our relief efforts. The EAMC Foundation is also a 501(c)(3), which means you can receive tax credit for your donation. Donations can be made online using the link below.
You can also donate to the Lee County Disaster Relief Fund via check. Please put Lee County Disaster Relief Fund in the memo line and mail your check to the below address.

How to Help
Mend is made up of committees that represent the many local service organizations, churches, civic groups, and businesses in our communities. With so many committee members, it would be nearly impossible to get all those people in the room at once and accomplish our goal to streamline relief efforts.
Instead, we’ve asked 2-4 individuals from each committee to serve on the Mend Steering Committee. Members of the Mend Steering Committee will coordinate with their committees and share information between the two groups to ensure we are maximizing our relief efforts, and targeting the needs strategically.
To give you a better idea of the makeup of our committees, they are listed below. If you think your organization fits into one (or more) of these categories, and would like to be involved in our long-term recovery efforts please fill out a Join Mend Form.
