Routine Mammograms Recommended for Early Detection of Breast Cancer
Mammograms are low-dose x-rays that look for abnormal changes in breast tissue. The American Cancer Society recommends that women begin having annual mammograms at age 45, and can switch to having mammograms every other year at age 55. Women who are considered at high risk, whether it be because of a breast condition or family history, should be screened more often or begin screening earlier. If you fall into the high-risk category, it is a good idea to discuss your breast screening schedule with your doctor. At East Alabama Health, we are committed to offering you a quick, convenient appointment scheduling process for mammograms as well as easy access to your test results through the patient portal.
