The Diabetes and Nutrition Center (DANC), a service of East Alabama Medical Center, is home to a dedicated team of healthcare professionals committed to supporting you throughout your health journey. Our team, which includes dietitians, nurses and an exercise physiologist, specializes in diabetes management.
Along with diabetes education classes and counseling, our registered dietitians provide personalized nutrition counseling for a range of food-related health conditions.

The Diabetes and Nutrition Center (DANC) provides patients throughout Auburn, Opelika and surrounding areas with individual consultations, one-on-one guidance and expert support for managing diabetes or reaching nutritional goals.
- Individualized diabetes self-management training: For patients living with diabetes, the DANC team works hand-in-hand with your doctor to build personalized care plans that fit your goals. From mastering the basics of eating and physical activity, to assisting with blood sugar monitoring, diabetes technology or providing emotional support, we are here for you.

Becoming a Patient at DANC
Patients at DANC receive care from an expert team of dietitians, nurses and diabetes management specialists.
Here is what to know about receiving care at DANC:
- Becoming established: A referral from the medical provider managing your condition is required. Once we receive your referral, we will contact you to schedule your first appointment.
- Your first appointment: First visits typically last 30 minutes. We’ll take your blood pressure and weight (if desired), then you’ll meet one-on-one with your clinician to discuss your health concerns. Afterward, we’ll schedule any necessary classes or follow-up visits.
Patients do not need a diagnosis of diabetes to visit DANC. Our team provides medical nutrition therapy for a variety of health conditions that can benefit from nutrition.
