Kenyetta Calloway was working as a care assistant at an assisted living facility when a co-worker mentioned the idea of becoming an instrument technician at East Alabama Medical Center. Wanting to try something other than direct patient care, Kenyetta decided to go for it.
In her position as a medical instrument technician, Kenyetta was responsible for cleaning, maintaining, and testing medical instruments. Now, 18 years later, Kenyetta is the Central Sterile Supply Supervisor at East Alabama Medical Center.
Kenyetta has had many memorable experiences throughout her years of working at East Alabama Medical Center, with her favorite being the births of her two sons, Jalen and Dylan. “Each experience was special because I was able to process the C-section trays that were used,” says Kenyetta.
In her spare time, Kenyetta enjoys attending her sons’ sporting events, cooking for her family, and watching Alabama college football with her husband.
When asked what she loves best about her job, Kenyetta said she likes that she is a part of the process of saving lives, and that she “know[s] that [she] is the patient’s first line of defense.”
