Valdrin Hoskins - Employee Spotlight

What is your job title here at EAH? How long have you been with EAH?

I am one of three lead technical support specialists in the MIS department and have been with the team for what is now two months under a year.

What inspired you to pursue your current job/career?

My interest in tech/information technology started with my time in the military. I was an information technology specialist and being able to learn and eventually put to practice getting complete networks running in the most rural areas was pretty exciting and it’s held my interest into what is now my civilian life.

What accomplishments are you most proud of?

As far as my accomplishments are concerned, I still feel like I have a few rungs on the ladder to climb to get to my final destination in regard to where I desire to be career wise. I will say the journey has turned me into a professional I am very proud of.

Who is a person in Black history (whether personally known to you or someone universally known) that has shaped your career and who you are today?

I know how this may sound, but ultimately the credit for how my career is presently shaped is owed to myself and my perseverance. Granted, I have my reasons for what I do; seeing the smiles on my parents faces knowing what their hard work has accomplished, I put in the work to get here so I have to thank myself for pushing forward and understanding the importance of being a positive representation.

What does Black History Month mean to you? Why is it important that we recognize this month?

Given the picture that has been painted of POC (People of Color) over the past, this serves to show America we’re more than what the racial caricatures portray us as. Our many contributions, whether voluntary or not, have helped shape the fabric of our country. This month is a reminder of the progress that was made and the work we still have left to do as we pick up the baton of our forefathers to continue to strive to achieve black excellence.
