William R. Blythe, M.D., an otolaryngologist and member of East Alabama Health’s medical staff, has been named president-elect of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (AAO-HNS).
The AAO-HNS is one of the largest member organizations for medical professionals in the world, representing roughly 13,000 specialists treating head and neck structures like the ears, nose and throat. As president-elect, Blythe will help advocate and guide the otolaryngology specialty throughout the next year before stepping into the role of president in 2028.
“This honor belongs not only to me, but to the many mentors, colleagues, partners, friends and family members who have encouraged, challenged and supported me throughout my career,” Blythe said. “I am profoundly thankful for the trust and confidence of my peers.”
Blythe has served the Auburn-Opelika community for nearly 30 years, having first began practicing at East Alabama Ear, Nose, and Throat in 1997. He also performs surgery at East Alabama Medical Center (EAMC) to treat patients with conditions impacting hearing, breathing and sinuses.
