About Me

Akram Haggag, M.D. serves as Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency at East Alabama Health. He earned his medical degree from Cairo University School of Medicine in Egypt and completed his residency at Michigan State University in Kalamazoo. Board certified in internal medicine, Dr. Haggag combines a passion for complex problem-solving with a deep commitment to patient-centered care.

As an academic physician, he finds great fulfillment in teaching and mentoring residents, believing that education should both inform and inspire excellence. His goal is to create a supportive, engaging environment that helps develop well-rounded, compassionate physicians.

Dr. Haggag chose East Alabama Health for its strong commitment to academic excellence, community service, and patient care, and he is proud to help train the next generation of physicians.

Outside of medicine, he enjoys sport fishing, USTA tennis, traveling, and table tennis. He and his wife have two children, both in school at VCOM. His honors include multiple VCOM–Virginia Campus Teaching Awards (2018–2022), the Michigan State University Teaching Award, Hillside Hospital All-Star Award for Exceptional Patient Care, and the Resident Teaching Award from Michigan State University.
