About Me
Originally from Columbia, South Carolina, Dr. Askar attended the University of South Carolina where he earned his undergraduate degree in biomedical engineering. He remained in Columbia to complete his medical degree at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Columbia. He then completed his psychiatry residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) where he was chosen as chief resident. Dr. Askar is board certification by the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology.
Drawn to psychiatry for the humanistic aspects, Dr. Askar enjoys interacting with his patients and helping them improve and regain control of their lives. His medical interests include psychopharmacology, obsessive compulsive disorder, depressive disorders, and anxiety disorders.
In his spare time, Dr. Askar enjoys cooking, mountain biking, hiking, jiu jitsu, bouldering, and Excel spreadsheets.
