About Me
Joan S. Hyland, D.O. is a board-certified psychiatrist practicing at East Alabama Psychiatric Services, specializing in child and adolescent psychiatry. Originally from Panama City Beach, Fla., Dr. Hyland earned dual bachelor's degrees from the Florida Institute of Technology before earning her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine–Auburn Campus. She then completed her psychiatry residency at HCA Florida Orange Park Hospital and her fellowship in child and sdolescent psychiatry at UF Health Jacksonville.
Dr. Hyland was drawn to psychiatry by a passion for understanding the complexities of the mind and helping patients and families navigate mental health challenges. She has a special interest in neurodevelopmental disorders, psychotic disorders, mood disorders, and family dynamics. During her residency, she participated in quality improvement projects, including research on alcohol withdrawal protocols and outcomes that was published in a medical journal, reflecting her commitment to improving patient care.
Outside of work, Dr. Hyland enjoys refereeing soccer, reading Frieda McFadden novels, and spending time with her husband, Alex, their Golden Retriever, and their cats.
