The Joint Commission Certified

As the nation’s oldest and largest standards-setting and accrediting body in healthcare, the Joint Commission sets rigorous quality standards and evaluates if healthcare organizations meet them. Organizations must go through rigorous evaluation to earn and maintain Joint Commission certification. East Alabama Health’s commitment to delivering the highest quality of care to every patient has earned us Joint Commission accreditation for nearly 65 years.

The Joint Commission Certified | Inpatient Diabetes

East Alabama Medical Center (EAMC) has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Advanced Inpatient Diabetes Disease-Specific Care Certification by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards. EAMC was the first hospital in Alabama to become certified in this category by The Joint Commission (TJC)—in 2010—and remains the only hospital in Alabama certified in inpatient diabetes. In fact, there are only 60 hospitals in the United States with this prestigious certification from The Joint Commission.

The Joint Commission Certified | Primary Stroke Center

East Alabama Medical Center has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Primary Stroke Center Certification. To obtain the designation, East Alabama Medical Center underwent a rigorous, onsite review process. During the visit, a Joint Commission reviewer evaluated compliance with related certification standards; for example: initiation and delivery of stroke patient care, utilization of current evidence-based guidelines of stroke care, continuing staff and provider stroke specific education, and timeliness of stroke specific patient care metrics.

America's Best-In-State Hospitals 2025

East Alabama Medical Center has been recognized on Newsweek's 2025 list of America's Best-in-State Hospitals. This prestigious award recognizes top hospitals at a state level, and is presented in collaboration with Statista, the world-leading statistics portal and industry ranking provider. The America's Best-in-State Hospitals 2025 ranking was created to identify the top hospitals at the state level. Hospitals were evaluated based on quality metrics, patient experience data, a nationwide survey of medical professionals and a voluntary patient-reported outcomes measure implementation survey. As a result, the 700 hospitals that scored the highest across these criteria were included on the list. EAMC is one of just 13 Alabama hospitals to be recognized.

Best Nursing Home 2025

EAMC-Lanier Nursing Home has been recognized on Newsweek's 2025 list of America's Best Nursing Homes. This lists the nation's leading nursing homes in the 25 states with the highest number of facilities according to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The evaluation was based on performance data provided by CMS, peer recommendations, accreditation scores, and resident satisfaction scores.

Best Maternity Hospitals 2024

East Alabama Medical Center (EAMC) was featured on Newsweek’s 2024 list of America’s Best Maternity Hospitals. EAMC was one of only three Alabama hospitals to receive a five-star ribbon score, the highest tier awarded based on the list’s ranking criteria. During the nationwide survey, hospital managers and medical professionals were asked to recommend leading maternity hospitals and rate them on a 1-10 scale. Patient survey data was taken from publicly available information about patient experience for the hospital. The hospital quality metrics score was determined by using data from The Joint Commission, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA).

AHA/ASA Stroke Gold Plus with Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll

East Alabama Medical Center has been awarded Stroke GOLD PLUS with Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association Get with the Guidelines. The hospital received this honor for its commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines, ultimately leading to more lives saved and reduced disability.

Best Hospital for Cancer Care | Women's Choice Award 2025

East Alabama Medical Center earned the Best Hospital for Cancer Care award because it met the comprehensive cancer care standards of the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer, as well as achieving excellence in clinical performance with regard to cancer care measures and for their high patient recommendation rate. In addition, EAMC is recognized for ranking in the top seven percent for cancer care in the nation.

Best 100 Hospitals for Patient Experience | Women's Choice Award 2025

The 100 Best Hospitals for Patient Experience designation is based on date from the HCAHPS survey, completed by patients after discharge. EAMC was ranked number 65 for patient experience among 524 other hospitals in its size category. For this award, items are weighted based on women's preferences with the most weight given to the patient's willingness to recommend, doctor communications, staff help, cleanliness, providing recovery information, explanation of medications, communication by nurses and peacefulness of room at night respectively.

Best Hospital for Orthopedics | Women's Choice Award 2025

By offering comprehensive orthopedic services, including arthroscopic procedures, spine surgeries, joint replacement and other orthopedic surgeries, as well as on-site physical therapy and MRI imaging, East Alabama Medical Center earned designation as 2025 Best Hospitals for Orthopedics. EAMC ranks in the top 6 percent of hospitals nationwide for orthopedics.

Best Hospital for Minimally Invasive Surgery | Women's Choice Award 2025

To be recognized with the Best Hospitals for Minimally Invasive Surgery award, EAMC had to meet the highest standards for surgical safety and quality care, have a low rate of surgical infections and complications, and be accredited for robotic surgeries. East Alabama Medical Center is recognized as ranking in the top three percent for minimally invasive surgery in the nation, and is also accredited as a Robotic Surgery of Excellence by the Surgical Review Corporation.

Best Hospital for Patient Safety | Women's Choice Award 2025

East Alabama Medical Center was identified as one of the Best Hospitals for Patient Safety based on having a low incidence of problems arising from surgical errors and infections after reporting their frequency to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). For this award, hospitals were ranked on 13 surgical complication and infection measures along with their patient recommendation scores, as those that averaged in the top half nationally earned the award. EAMC ranked in the top two percent for patient safety in the nation.

Best Hospital for Mammogram | Women's Choice Award 2024

East Alabama Medical Center has been recognized as one of the top 10 percent of hospitals for mammograms. East Alabama Health offers comprehensive care for women's health, and has a Breast Health Center located in Auburn. The Women’s Choice Award recognizes the best brands, companies and healthcare facilities so that women and their families can feel confident when using said providers. Surgical Review Corporation | Robotic Center of Excellence

East Alabama Medical Center (EAMC) has earned accreditation from Surgical Review Corporation (SRC) as a Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery. The accreditation recognizes EAMC’s dedication to delivering high-quality, compassionate patient care with an emphasis on safety. Status as an accredited robotic center of excellence means that EAMC has met nationally and international recognized standards. Healthcare facilities and surgeons seeking SRC accreditation must undergo an extensive assessment and inspection process to ensure they meet SRC’s proven standards and requirements.

American College of Cardiology | Transcatheter Valve Certification

The American College of Cardiology has recognized East Alabama Medical Center for its demonstrated expertise and commitment in treating patients receiving transcatheter valve repair and replacement procedures. EAMC was awarded Transcatheter Valve Certification based on evaluation of the staff’s ability to meet standards for multidisciplinary teams, formalized training, shared decision-making and registry performance.

Blue Distinction Centers+ for Cardiac Care | 2023

East Alabama Medical Center has earned designation from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama as a Blue Distinction Centers+ for Cardiac Care, as part of the Blue Distinction Specialty Care program. Blue Distinction Centers are nationally designated providers that have proven to deliver quality care with safe practices that lead to better health outcomes for patients. Health care facilities recognized as Blue Distinction Centers are assessed using quality information supplied by facilities and third-party data registries, which were developed with input from the medical community and leading accreditation and quality organizations. Blue Distinction Centers+ have also proven to provide more cost-efficient care and are evaluated using cost measures derived from Blue Cross and Blue Shield (BCBS) companies’ medical claims.

American College of Radiology Accredited Prostate Cancer MRI Center

East Alabama Health has been named a Prostate Cancer MRI Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR). The ACR designation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Parameters and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs are assessed. The findings are reported to the ACR Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report that can be used for continuous practice improvement.
