Cataract Surgery
Cataract surgery is a procedure to correct vision loss by removing a cloudy eye lens and replacing it with a new lens. An ophthalmologist, or eye surgeon, can perform cataract surgery to help patients restore their vision.
Patients struggling with a cataract often have a difficult time performing tasks due to impaired vision. There is no other way to eliminate a cataract besides surgery. Following the procedure and recovery, patients often see an increase in vision strength.
A cataract removal procedure usually takes an hour to complete, and patients typically do not need to be sedated. This is one of the most common performed procedures, more than 9 out of 10 patients saying their vision improved after the procedure according to the NIH.
Who Needs Cataract Surgery?
An ophthalmologist may recommend cataract surgery if vision in one or both of your eyes has been significantly affected by a cataract. There is no other way to remove cataract besides surgery.
