About the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Clinic
The Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Clinic at the Neurology Center of East Alabama provides ongoing care for patients with MS. Our providers help with symptom management, immune-modifying therapies, and treatment monitoring.
Why choose East Alabama Health for multiple sclerosis care
Our neurologists are passionate about helping patients living with MS take control of their condition and regain say over their life.
Patients choose East Alabama Health’s neurology team for MS care because of:
- Specialized MS care: Patients who visit the Multiple Sclerosis Clinic are seen by a neurologist who specializes in treating MS. This means patients receive care at a clinic centered around treating their specific condition.
- Personalized treatment plans: Each patient’s experience with multiple sclerosis is different, and we understand that. That’s why our neurology team takes time to understand your specific symptoms and identify treatment plan tailored to your needs.
- Coordinated care close to home: Our MS specialists collaborate with other neurologists and specialists to review each patient's case and determine the best treatment approach. If you need additional care such as infusion treatments or injections, we can help connect you with care close to home.
What to expect at the Multiple Sclerosis Clinic
When you visit the MS Clinic, you will meet with a neurologist who focuses on caring for patients with multiple sclerosis.
Your neurologist will review your medical history, talk with you about any changes or concerns, and work with you to identify a care plan that makes sense for your condition. As part of that process, your neurologist may also coordinate with other specialists and your primary care provider to support a more complete approach to your MS care.
Follow-up visits help your care team monitor your progress, adjust treatment when needed and keep your care focused on helping you manage MS over time.
What other diseases are treated in this clinic?
Our providers treat MS as well as other autoimmune conditions affecting the central nervous system, such as:
- Optic Neuritis
- Transverse Myelitis
- Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis (ADEM)
- Autoimmune Encephalitis
- Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorders (NMOSD)
- Myelin Oligodendrocyte Glycoprotein Antibody-associated Disease (MOGAD)
What treatment options are available for MS?
The Multiple Sclerosis Clinic helps identify appropriate treatment options best suited to help a patient manage their condition.
Because MS symptoms can vary from person to person, symptom management is not one-size-fits-all. When you visit the Multiple Sclerosis Clinic, your neurologist will take time to understand your specific symptoms and recommend treatment options
For some patients, that may include medication to help manage muscle stiffness, nerve pain, fatigue, bladder concerns or other MS-related symptoms.
Your MS treatment plan may include infusion therapy, especially if your neurologist recommends a medication that is given through an IV.
At the Multiple Sclerosis Clinic, your neurologist will talk with you about your options, explain the potential benefits and risks, and help determine whether infusion therapy is an appropriate part of your care.
If infusion therapy is recommended, East Alabama Health can help make that care easier to access. We offer infusion services at three convenient locations, along with home infusion options for eligible patients, so you can receive treatment in a setting that fits your needs and your care plan.
Your neurologist may recommend supportive therapies, such as physical therapy or speech therapy, to help address areas of function that have been affected by MS. These therapies can support your overall care plan by helping you maintain strength, mobility, communication and independence in daily life.
