East Alabama Medical Center (EAMC), recognized by Newsweek in 2025 as one of America’s Best Maternity Hospitals, is the first hospital in Alabama to offer the Vibwife Birth Platform, an innovative birth mobility system designed to support comfort, movement and control during labor.
The new system is part of EAMC’s continued investment in maternity care and reflects East Alabama Health’s commitment to combining advanced resources with compassionate, family-centered care for mothers and babies.
“When families come to EAMC to welcome a baby, they are trusting us with one of the most important moments of their lives,” said Nicki Ware, East Alabama Health’s chief nursing officer. “Introducing the Vibwife Birth Platform is one more way we are investing in their comfort, safety and overall birthing experience.”
All rooms in EAMC’s Childbirth Unit are equipped with the platform, making the technology available to every laboring mother cared for in the unit.
The Vibwife Birth Platform allows mothers to use a remote control to activate gentle, rhythmic movement while laboring in bed. The system supports a variety of labor positions and is designed to help mothers remain more mobile and comfortable, whether they are pursuing a natural birth or receiving an epidural.
Among the advantages of the platform are:
- Supports movement of the pelvis, legs and body during labor
- Offers multiple positioning options to promote comfort and help support labor progress
- Provides pelvic lift and tilt features to help create more space for the baby’s descent
- Gives mothers more control over movement through an easy-to-use remote
In addition to being the first hospital in Alabama to offer the technology, EAMC is among the first hospitals in the United States to implement Vibwife.
The investment comes as EAMC continues to meet the needs of a growing region. More than 2,200 babies are born each year at EAMC.
“Maternity care is an essential part of our mission because it touches families at such a meaningful time,” said Rosemary Cummings, executive director of Women’s and Children’s Services at EAMC. “Our goal is to provide mothers with compassionate care, advanced resources and an environment where they feel supported from pregnancy through delivery and beyond.”
The Vibwife Birth Platform is produced by LINET Group, a company based in the Netherlands, and is used in maternity care settings in Europe and other parts of the world. Its introduction at EAMC further strengthens East Alabama Health’s position as a trusted source for maternity care in the region.
